Terms of service

Terms of service

Last updated 14 August 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Ryan Rood, sole proprietor, of London, Ontario, Canada, who owns and operates cards.place (“we”, “us”). By using the service you accept them.

This is a small, independently run service. The terms below are written to be read rather than skimmed past, and they describe what the software actually does today, not what a template assumes it does.

1. What the service is

cards.place is a private inventory for collectable trading cards. You catalogue your collection, and the application stores, organises, values and exports it for you. The application lives at my.cards.place.

It is a record-keeping tool. It is not an appraisal service, an escrow, a payment service or financial advice. If you publish a share link, a visitor can send you an offer through it — we pass that offer between the two of you and take no part in the sale. Any value shown is a figure you entered or derived from figures you entered. We do not verify, appraise or guarantee what anything is worth, including on the insurance schedule the application can print. That schedule is a convenience for you to give your insurer; it is your statement of value, not ours.

2. Accounts

Anyone can create an account at my.cards.place. Every new account starts with a free trial. Its length is shown when you sign up and on the pricing page: 30 days for accounts created on or before 18 September 2026, and 7 days after that.

  • Two-factor authentication is mandatory. You cannot turn it off. If you lose your second factor you can recover access with your password and an emailed link, or with one of the recovery codes shown when you enrolled.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password and second factor to yourself, and for anything done through your account.
  • Tell us promptly at info@cards.place if you think someone else has access. Signing out invalidates every existing session on every device.
  • One person per account. If more than one person needs access to a collection, add extra users (section 5) rather than sharing a login.

3. Your collection is yours

You keep every right you have in what you put into the service: your card records, your photographs, your notes and your valuations. We claim no ownership of any of it.

You give us only the narrow permission we need in order to run the service for you: to store your content, back it up, and show it back to you and to anyone you have authorised. We do not use it for anything else. We do not sell it, publish it, use it to train anything, or share it with other customers.

Nothing in your collection is public unless you deliberately switch sharing on. The read-only API is off at the server and off per account, and it returns nothing at all until both are switched on.

You can always leave with your data. Export the whole collection as a real Excel workbook or as CSV, whenever you like, including while an account is locked for non-payment. See section 8.

4. Offers on a share link

If you publish a share link, a visitor can offer you a price for a card. We pass the offer on, and nothing more.

We are not a party to the sale. We take no payment, hold no funds, provide no escrow, and offer neither buyer nor seller any protection. An offer is not a binding contract, and accepting one does not create one through us. Payment, delivery, and any dispute about either, are entirely between the two of you.

If you make an offer you do not need an account, but you agree to these terms by sending it. Give a real name and an email address you control. Do not use an offer to advertise, to harass, or to mislead anyone about who you are or what you intend. We may refuse, remove or expire any offer, and may withdraw a share link, without notice.

What the other side sees. Your name, your email address, the amount and your message are shown to the owner of that collection — that is what an offer is for. Do not send anything through it you would not want them to keep.

5. Extra users

On the Vault plan you can invite other people into your collection, each set to view only or to edit. If you do:

  • They work inside your collection, under your subscription. You remain responsible for what they do with it, including anything they add, change or delete.
  • The activity log records the person who actually did each thing, not just the account it happened in, so you can see who changed what.
  • Only you, the account holder, can manage billing, API credentials, sharing settings, or invite further people.
  • Removing someone detaches them. They keep their own login and lose all access to your collection; nothing of yours is deleted.
  • Only invite people who are entitled to see the collection. We cannot know whether an invitation was appropriate, so that judgement is yours.

6. What you must not do

  • Use the service unlawfully, or to store anything unlawful.
  • Upload images you do not have the right to use.
  • Try to reach another customer's data, or probe, scrape or attack the service.
  • Resell or sublicense access, or share one account among several people.
  • Deliberately overwhelm the service, whether through the interface or the API.

If you find a security problem, please tell us at info@cards.place before telling anyone else. We will not pursue you for reporting something you found in good faith and did not exploit.

7. Payment

Plans are monthly, in Canadian dollars: Basic $5 CAD, Premium $10 CAD, Vault $20 CAD per month. Add-ons are monthly and in Canadian dollars too: extra capacity $4 CAD per 1,000 cards, and each extra user $5 CAD. The price shown is the price charged.

  • Payments are taken by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers, so we cannot see or store them.
  • Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can change plan or cancel at any time from the billing portal in the application.
  • We may change prices. If we do, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it affects you, and you can cancel before it takes effect rather than accept it.
  • Refunds and cancellations are set out in the refund and cancellation policy, which forms part of these terms.

Billing is live. New accounts start with a free trial of the length shown at signup, and Section 7 above describes how billing works once it ends.

8. If a payment fails or you stop paying

A single failed payment does not lock anything. Stripe retries over several days and your access continues throughout, because an expired card that is about to be replaced should not cost you your collection over a weekend.

If the subscription ends without being renewed, the account locks. Signing in still works, but instead of your collection you get a screen with two choices: reactivate, or download everything.

Export never locks. Whatever else is switched off, you can take the full catalogue with you as an Excel workbook or CSV, at any time, without paying anything further. Your cataloguing is your work and we will not hold it to ransom.

Nothing is deleted when an account locks. Cards, photographs and saved views stay exactly as they were, and they are all still there if you come back. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before deleting the contents of a long-dormant unpaid account, so you have a chance to export first.

9. Availability, backups and support

We work to keep the service up and we do not promise that it always will be. There is no uptime guarantee. Maintenance, hosting faults and plain mistakes all happen, and this is a one-person operation rather than a company with an overnight team.

We keep backups and we test them, but you should keep your own export too. It is one click, it works even when your account is locked, and it is the only copy that is entirely under your control. Please do not treat the service as the sole record of a valuable collection.

Support is by email at info@cards.place. We aim to reply within a couple of business days.

10. Where your data is held

We are in Canada. The servers are in the United States (our host is InMotion Hosting), so your data is stored and processed outside Canada and is subject to the laws of the country it sits in. Stripe also processes payment information outside Canada. If that is not acceptable to you, please do not use the service.

11. Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time by cancelling your subscription. See the refund and cancellation policy.

Deleting things inside the application is different from closing your account. A card, saved view or collection you delete goes to a recycle bin and stays there for 30 days, with its photographs, so you can put it back. After 30 days it is permanently deleted and neither you nor we can recover it. Closing your account is immediate and does not go through the bin.

We may suspend or end an account if it is used to break these terms or the law, if it puts the service or other customers at risk, or if payment is not made. Except where the account is being used unlawfully or is causing active harm, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.

12. Our liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties, and we are not liable for lost profits, lost data, or indirect or consequential loss. Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose.

Two things that limit is not meant to dodge. It does not apply to anything the law does not let us limit, and it does not cut down the rights you have as a consumer under Ontario or Canadian consumer protection law. Those rights stand whatever this section says.

We are also not liable for the accuracy of valuations you entered, or for how an insurer, buyer or anyone else treats a schedule or export produced from your own figures.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will email you at least 30 days beforehand, and the date at the top of this page will change. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it; if you would rather not, cancel before then.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction. This does not remove any right you have to bring a complaint where you live if the law where you live says you can.

Before anything formal, please email us. Most things are a misunderstanding and are quicker to fix than to argue about.

These terms are written in plain language on purpose and are not legal advice. They have not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it is worth having someone qualified in Ontario read them, particularly sections 11 and 13.
